Most of Wisconsin not planting yet

Wisconsin’s weather has kept most farmers out of the fields.  The recent cool temperatures along with wind, rain, and snow have left fields far from ideal, impacting the ability to apply manure, fertilizer, or do spring field work, even in southern Wisconsin.

Janesville area farmer and Wisconsin Soybean Association President Doug Rebout hasn’t been in the tractor much so far. “We’re out doing a little strip tilling right now in between the rains and stuff, but it will be another couple of weeks before the planters get going.”

Rebout says a day with some sun and a breeze, and his family could get back in the fields.  Rebout says they seldom alter their crop rotations and always strip till and apply anhydrous in the same springtime pass.

The storm systems that moved through southern Wisconsin a week ago didn’t cause much damage, but Rebout says a storm last month caused severe damage to a neighbor’s grain dryer.
