MU cash rent survey shows little change in three years
A cash rent survey for Missouri cropland did not change much from the survey done three years ago, “Given that the economic conditions are a little less favorable right now than they were in 2015 or 2014, we did expect to see some downturn. But, we did not see that,” says MU Extension Economist Ray Massey. He tells Brownfield Ag News they found row-crop land rents averaged nearly $147-dollars-per acre, with a low of $50 and a high of $305.
The average for irrigated row-crop land was $196-dollsars. Good pastureland average rent was nearly $41-dollars per acre in Missouri.
Massey emphasizes the importance of other factors, not just average prices, in negotiating cash rental rates.
Survey results are from a small portion, 48-thousand acres, of the state’s farmland. The USDA says 35% of Missouri farmland is rented.
