Naig discusses quick harvest season

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says farmers have had very few weather interruptions this harvest season.

“I can’t really remember a season where we didn’t at least have some pause in some part of the state.”

He tells Brownfield he’s hearing some optimism on yields. “It’s not universally that we’re seeing record yields across the state. There are challenging places. But, by and large I think folks are in really good shape and happy with the numbers that are coming in.”

Naig says recent storm systems brought much needed rain. “I am encouraged that we’re seeing a more active weather pattern that’s developed across the Midwest. We need it. We could take a pretty good shot of rain and still be back in the field pretty quick.”

He says more precipitation will be needed to help replenish subsoils for the 2025 growing season.
