Naig talks India trade potential
Iowa’s secretary of agriculture says strengthening the trade relationship with India presents opportunities for U.S. ag.
Mike Naig says the country is focused on boosting its economy.
“You look at that significant population and you know that there’s a demand,” he says. “You’ve got a middle class that will exceed 500 million people just in the middle class alone. You’ve got folks looking for diversity in their diet, they’re looking for more animal proteins.”
He tells Brownfield India’s growing demand for renewable fuels is good for U.S. producers.
“They’re really on a nice trajectory when it comes to using more ethanol in their transportation fuel, but they also have industrial uses and cooking uses and those types of things,” he says. “We think that while they can grow their domestic industry, they can also benefit from bringing in ethanol from the United States.”
Brownfield interviewed Naig at the 2024 National Association of State Departments of Agriculture Annual Meeting.
