Naig touts E15 waiver, says more work needs to be done

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says the recent E15 summertime waiver gives producers and retailers some short-term certainty.

“It does allow everyone nationwide to have access to what we already have access to in this state, Unleaded 88,” he said.

But he tells Brownfield the issue has been lingering for far too long.

“The only thing I don’t like about the news of an E15 waiver being granted is that it’s not a permanent solution.”

Naig says the fuel blends need to be made available at all times of the year for every state.

“The answer here is to have congressional action that makes this permanent. That’s what we’ll continue to fight for.”

Some lawmakers, including U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, have recently stated work on a federal E15 solution could get pushed back as Congress focuses on tax policy and a new five-year farm bill.
