NASDA outlines 2025 policy priorities
One of the big priorities for the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture in 2025 is state cooperative agreement funding.
The farm bill, food systems, pesticide regulations, and PFAS round out the organization’s list of priorities.
RJ Karney is NASDA’s senior director of public policy.
“The federal and state cooperative agreements are designed to share responsibilities and resources,” he says. “From NASDA’s perspective, we’re calling on Congress to address the significant budget shortfalls and cuts that are currently underway.”
He tells Brownfield several programs are facing cuts, including the FDA’s state and local food regulatory programs.
“For fiscal year 2025, there’s likely to be a 30% budget cut to state programs,” he says. “This has the potential to severely threaten foodborne illnesses, outbreaks, and the response to those.”
Karney says NASDA will continue to work on effective policy for America’s farmers and ranchers.
