NASDA: state ag departments are ready to work with USDA on climate challenges

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) is urging the USDA to partner with state ag departments on climate change solutions.

NASDA CEO Barb Glenn says state ag departments are uniquely positioned to partner with USDA on new programs and initiatives. She says NASDA members serve as co-regulators with federal agencies on conservation, environmental protection, and the promotion of economic sustainability of farmers, ranchers, forest owners to address concerns about climate resilience.

The organization is encouraging USDA to partner with states as the Biden administration lays a new foundation for agriculture to grow its contributions to climate resiliency and environmental sustainability.

The deadline to provide comments for USDA’s climate-smart agriculture and forestry strategy was Friday. NASDA comments can be found here.

NASDA is a founding member of the Food and Agriculture Climate Alliance. The organization and alliance agree climate policies must be advised by trusted, non-partisan individuals with experience in farming, a deep understanding of environmental science, and the ability to work with all levels of government.
