National Corn Growers Association seeking disaster package in lame duck
The president of the National Corn Growers Association says farmers need help in the lame duck session.
Kenneth Hartman, Jr., who farms in Illinois, tells Brownfield…
“Prices are still low on corn and other products. Costs are up.” He says, “Inflation’s been up. The interest rates have been up. So, we want to get an economic package that can help some of our farmers out this year to get through this next year.”
He says the proposed $21 billion FARM Act would alleviate a lot of stress across the countryside.
“We’re hoping that Congress can put something together to just help our farmers get through this winter, so they can go to their banks and basically get money to put a crop in next year.” He says, “I know there’s some areas that’s there’s been some weather issues that have caused some issues when it comes to the yield.”
Hartman says an ag disaster package could also be tired to a hurricane disaster relief package.
The current lame duck session runs until the new Congress is sworn in on January 3rd.
