National Farm-City Week kickoff
A kickoff luncheon to celebrate National Farm-City Week (November 20-26) held each year the week of Thanksgiving will be held Thursday, November 19 at the Westin in downtown Indianapolis. National Farm-City Council Board member Hugh Whaley says the week is designed to enhance the link between farm families and urban residents.
“The week is actually a celebration if you will of that cooperation and to help promote a greater understanding of the relationship that those two entities have,” said Whaley.
Thursday’s kickoff event will begin with the Farm-City Symposium, featuring a panel discussion on Farm Animal Care: Myths vs. Facts. Whaley tells Brownfield they chose the theme to “foster a greater understanding of how producers treat their animals in a humane and sustainable fashion.”
On the panel to discuss farm animal care issues will be: Mike Bumgarner, Center for Food and Animal Issues, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, Malcolm DeKryger, pork producer, Roger Berry, Alliance for the Future of Agriculture in Nebraska and John Aleshire, executive director, Humane Society of Indianapolis.
The keynote speaker for the luncheon will be Indiana Lt. Governor Becky Skillman.
