National Farm Safety and Health Week: No one can take your place

It’s National Farm Safety and Health Week and the National Education Center for Ag Safety is focused on education and awareness for both farmers and the general public.

Director Dan Neenan tells Brownfield agriculture is the most dangerous industry in the US with 453 fatalities and more than 50,000 disabling injuries documented in 2021.  He says this year’s National Farm Safety and Health Week theme reminds farmers how important they are.

“The theme is “No one can take your place”. We are of course talking to the farmer saying that if they’re injured or perhaps killed on the farm, it may be that the family is going to need to sell that farm.”

Neenan say as harvest gest underway in many states, it is an ideal time to touch on different areas of ag safety and health.  He says they are hosting 15 free webinars throughout the week on different focus topics including:

Monday – Equipment and Rural Roadway Safety

Tuesday – Health and Wellness

Wednesday – Priority Populations (Under 18 and over 65)

Thursday – Confined Spaces

Friday – Brain Health

Neenan says National Farm Safety and Health Week is one of the longest running presidentially proclaimed weeks having first been recognized by Franklin Roosevelt in 1944 and done so by each sitting President ever since.
