National FFA Organization investing in teacher development
The director of educational programs, Ambra Tennery, says the National FFA Organization is focused on expanding opportunities for ag teachers.
She tells Brownfield ag educators play a significant role in shaping future careers for students.
“Agriculture teachers are invaluable to students at the local level,” she says. “It usually always comes back to that ag teacher who’s providing and pushing students to those opportunities and experiences.”
Tennery says teacher retention is also important.
“When they’re supported and they’re part of a mentor, mentee program, the more likely they are to stay in the teaching profession,” she says. “They’ve got that person that they can go to and bounce ideas off of, they can share their triumphs, they can share their tribulations.”
She says getting involved in programs like National Teachers Ambassadors can help ag educators invest in their professional development.
