National Nematode Day
Today is National Nematode Day.
Ohio State University soybean pathologist Horacio Lopez-Nicora says the SCN Coalition strategically selected October first to bring attention to soybean cyst nematode.
“It’s when most of our growers are starting, in the midst of, or wrapping up soybean harvest. And it’s a good time to remind them of the most economically damaging pathogen of soybean in North America.”
He tells Brownfield SCN causes more than $1.5 billion in revenue loss to soybean yields annually.
“And most of the time with absolutely no above-ground symptoms, which really makes it a very scary pest.”
Lopez-Nicora encourages soybean growers to sample fields for SCN following harvest.
