National Sorghum Producers past chair expecting some farm bill movement before holidays
The past chairman of National Sorghum Producers says he expects some movement on the farm bill before the holidays.
Craig Meeker tells Brownfield Congress could move on disaster relief during the lame duck session.
“I think there’s definitely going to be some opportunities with disaster assistance, economic assistance, kind of as a bridge between that, the Old Farm bill and the a potential new farm bill here coming in the future,” he says.
Meeker says the farm bill should provide assurance of a relevant safety net for sorghum producers.
“Quite honestly, it protects the taxpayers of the United States most of all because it’s efficient. It’s a good use of the resources of their tax dollars, and it provides them with a safe, affordable, abundant supply of food,” he says.
Meeker says he expects the farm bill to be finalized in the next Congress.
Brownfield interviewed Meeker at the 2024 Sorghum Connection Winter Series in Salina, Kansas, hosted by Kansas State Research and Extension and the Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission.
