Nationwide, year-round E15 seen as key demand driver for sorghum

Brownfield's Kellan Heavican interviews Amy France at 2025 NAFB.

The chairwoman of the National Sorghum Producers says year-round, nationwide E15 could provide much-needed price support for the industry.

Amy France says sorghum is an important feedstock for biofuels that can be overlooked. “Often times people don’t know that sorghum can be used in ethanol production. We have ethanol plants that are using 80 or 90 percent and there are some plants that use 100 percent sorghum.”

She says producers need additional demand since exports have declined and production has increased. “We’re confident E15 is the answer domestically for our producers but also for our consumers. We continue to have those conversations and hope to have an announcement soon on that.”

France says she’s cautiously optimistic that Congress could pass the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act in early 2026.
