NCGA and ASA urge Trump to uphold commitment to RFS
Two major commodity groups are urging President Trump to uphold his commitment to the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
The National Corn Growers Association and American Soybean Association, in a joint op-ed, call on Trump to instruct the EPA to stop undermining the RFS by granting waivers to big oil companies. They say the refinery exemptions have reduced demand for renewable fuels and lowered the price of corn and soybeans.
For ethanol, the waivers limit growth of higher ethanol blends and undo the positives provided by year-round E15, according to NCGA and ASA. And for biodiesel, the waivers, combined with the zero-growth proposed for the annual RFS volumes, take the industry backward, the groups say.
The op-ed says Trump’s promise to farmers is especially important now, as EPA evaluates pending waivers and begins a rulemaking process to reset RFS requirements.
