NCGA focused on growing demand

The first vice president of the National Corn Growers Association says the organization is looking at ways to grow demand for U.S. corn on the global market.

Jed Bower says strengthening international relationships will increase market access.

“We need to negotiate some trade deals,” he says. “We need to move our product around the world. We raise the highest quality corn and a lot of the end users do enjoy buying the product. We need to whenever possible, simplify that process for them.”

He tells Brownfield the organization is concerned about the long-term impacts of proposed tariffs.

“We understand the administration likes the idea of potentially using tariffs to try to balance the trade of issues we have going on,” he says. “We know that a lot of times when that happens, you get some retaliatory issues from those countries and it affects our growers.”

Bower says having a stronger presence in the marketplace will lead to higher demand and greater profitability for the American corn farmer.
