NCGA president says the industry is “worried” as farmers continue to face the fourth straight year of losses

The president of the National Corn Growers Association says farmers are facing one of the toughest economic years in recent history.

“I think we’re all worried,” he says.

Ohio farmer Jed Bower says many producers are facing the fourth straight year of losses, and the current price structure isn’t working.

“It’s really felt like the industry has been taking advantage of us,” he says. “Everybody gets a piece of our pie, sometimes there’s some left, but a lot of times, there hasn’t been anything left. That really puts us at a disadvantage.”

He tells Brownfield increasing corn demand through nationwide, year-round E-15 is one way to improve profitability, but, “We’re running out of days in their work calendar. We’re starting to get frustrated again because there’s just not much time left.”

Bower says farmers continue to develop new management strategies to help navigate an uncertain policy environment, but long-term solutions are needed sooner rather than later.
