NCGA supports bill to name a state microbe in Illinois
The National Corn Growers Association supports a bill in the state of Illinois to make Penicillium ruben the state microbe.
NCGA says the USDA Agricultural Research Service lab in Peoria, Ilinois was the key to scaling up penicillin and by doing so, saved millions of lives.
The Peoria Lab, a past winner of NCGA’s Consider Corn Challenge, has made other notable advances from xantham gum to corn syrup.
NCGA says it also supports President Biden’s proposed USDA ARS budget given the importance of ag research and development. It says research funding is necessary to drive continued value back to U.S. corn farmers.
