Near record yields in Indiana?
A Monticello farmer says he’s impressed with the crops in his area.
John Peters says he expects record yields.
“In our area, the corn and beans look fantastic,” he says. “Everything just looks phenomenal right now.”
According to the latest crop progress and conditions report from the USDA, corn is rated 69 percent good to excellent with 94 percent silking. Soybeans are rated 68 percent good to excellent, with 91 percent blooming.
He tells Brownfield there’s no signs of problematic disease pressure.
“Right now everything has been perfect,” he says. “We got everything planted pretty decently and it’s come up. We don’t have haven’t had any disease pressures that have showed themselves in our area.”
The second cutting of alfalfa is 95 percent complete, and the second hay cutting is 77 percent complete.
Topsoil moisture is 68 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 66 percent adequate to surplus.
