Nebraska Cattlemen president-elect says producers are cashing in on strong market
The president-elect of Nebraska Cattlemen says it’s a good time to be a cattle producer.
“We have never experienced the highs that we are experiencing now,” says Dick Pierce.
He tells Brownfield the high prices have been especially welcome for cow-calf producers.
“The cow-calf man often times doesn’t get to cash in on all the good that happens in the cattle industry. But right now, the cow-calf man is actually reaping a lot of reward,” he says.
Pierce says there is still some uncertainty heading into 2025.
“When’s the bottom going to fall out? I mean, who knows right now. We’re not seeing any expansion of the cow herd. It doesn’t look like it’s anything that’s going to be on the horizon in the near future,” he says.
Pierce says as long as the market conditions remain favorable, producers should see continued success.
Brownfield interviewed Pierce at the Nebraska Cattlemen annual convention in Kearney, Nebraska.
