Nebraska Corn Board disappointed by California decision
Ethanol and corn groups have had a few days now to digest the recent decision of the California Air Resources Board. That board approved a low carbon fuel standard thatincluded indirect land use penalties against corn-based ethanol.
Kelly Brunkhorst, ag program manager for the Nebraska Corn Board, says the decision was “greatly disappointing”. But he also points to a couple of concessions from the California board as providingsome hope.
“First of all, they said that they’ll put together an expert working group, which is a great first step of continuing to hear our voice in the regulations,” Brunkhorst says, “and secondly, that they’re going to move up the original first review ofthe regulations to within a year. So those are good concessions that they made, and at least we got that far.”
California is a major market for ethanol produced in Nebraska.
