Nebraska Corn Board disappointed by California decision
Ethanol and corn groups have had a few days now to digest the recent decision of the California Air Resources Board. That board approved a low carbon fuel standard that included indirect land use penalties against corn-based ethanol.Kelly Brunkhorst, ag program manager for the Nebraska Corn Board, says the decision was “greatly disappointing”. But he also points to a couple of concessions from the California board as providing some hope.
“First of all, they said that they’ll put together an expert working group, which is a great first step of continuing to hear our voice in the regulations,” Brunkhorst says, “and secondly, that they’re going to move up the original first review of the regulations to within a year. So those are good concessions that they made, and at least we got that far.”
California is a major market for ethanol produced in Nebraska.
