Nebraska corn conditions down slightly week over week
An Eastern Nebraska farmer says corn conditions are mostly good.
But Matt Bailey tells Brownfield he does have concerns about crop health.
“A little bit of Southern Rust, which is a little early for that critter,” he says. “The stuff that was planted early looks good, better than expected. The stuff that was planted later is a little uneven, starting to green up and look healthy again, but still has a ways to go.”
According to USDA, corn is rated 75% good to excellent, down slightly from 78% a week ago, with 76% of the crop silking. Bailey says his soybeans conditions are also good.
“White mold is still a concern, but I haven’t seen anything major yet,” he says.
USDA says soybeans in Nebraska were 75% good to excellent, down from 77% last week, with 84% of the crop blooming.
The winter wheat harvest improved for a second straight week, with now 86% of the crop harvested, up from 70% a week ago.
