Nebraska farmer harvests record soybean crop
A south-central Nebraska farmer says harvest pace should pick up steam this week.
Randy Uhrmacher says he’s been about a week behind schedule. “We’ve had some rain delays, which is kind of unusual compared to the last few years. With as dry as it has been, I’m not complaining because we certainly needed the moisture.”
He tells Brownfield his soybean crop exceeded expectations. “The beans were outstanding. I can’t complain about that. We had record bean yields on the irrigated and right at record bean yields on the non-irrigated.”
Uhrmacher says dryland corn harvest just started. “That looks to be about your typical what we expect out of our non-irrigated corn. It was dry early and that set it back just a little bit.”
He says he’s optimistic about irrigated corn yields despite late-season disease pressure.
