Nebraska farmer questions USDA’s record corn crop projection
A farmer in south central Nebraska says he’s skeptical of the latest supply and demand report from the USDA.
Randy Uhramcher says the department is still projecting a record corn crop. “I kind of question that. There definitely is a lot of good corn out there, but I saw a lot of good corn out there. I also saw a lot of diseased corn and heard lots of reports of diseased corn not yielding too well and some if it was in our area in fact.”
He tells Brownfield he implemented some risk management strategies in case prices moved significantly lower. “Personally, I had some orders in that didn’t get hit to buy if the markets did crash. Didn’t get hit or it wasn’t as bas it could’ve been or we could take advantage of.”
Uhrmacher says he’s still determining how he will market the rest of his crop this year.
