Nebraska farmer seeing mixed results on corn harvest

A south-central Nebraska farmer says his corn harvest has seen mixed results.

Randy Uhrmacher tells Brownfield…

“We had some fields that were kind of beat up with some hail and wind here and there that took the top out, but where we didn’t have that, the corn is really good,” he says.

According to USDA’s weekly crop progress report, 45% of corn is harvested in Nebraska compared to 27% a week ago, and well ahead of the five-year average of 35%, with 94% of the crop mature and 67% of the crop rated good to excellent.

Uhrmacher, who farms in Adams County, says he’s expecting better yields when compared to last year.

“Non-irrigated acres this year did far far better than what they’ve done in the last two years. Fortunately, we did catch some rain this year to allow the dryland to be more of a normal crop,” he says.

Soybeans are 70% harvested compared to 46% last week and ahead of the five-year average of 62%.

Uhrmacher says non-irrigated soybeans have come out dry, with corn measuring about 14% and soybeans as low as 6%.

According to USDA, 94% of sorghum in the state is harvested with 79% rated good to excellent. Wheat is 96% planted with 69% of the crop emerged.
