Nebraska farmers benefitting from increase of soybean crush plants
A Nebraska Soybean Board member says the increase of crush plants has been beneficial to farmers.
Mark Caspers tells Brownfield…
“It improves their bases quite a lot and we get to utilize more of those bushels right here in Nebraska that gets converted into meal and I know a lot of that meal is going into animal feed,” he says.
Caspers, who farms dryland acres in southeast Nebraska, says he’s expecting mixed results this fall, after scattered rains throughout the growing season.
“It started out we had plenty of moisture early on and things were looking real good. Then about the ninth of July it seemed like the rain just shut off on us for five weeks or a little bit more than that,” he says.
He says August rains helped his corn and soybeans but others haven’t been as fortunate.
“Some are going to be pretty good and some are going to be on the down side,” he says.
Brownfield interviewed Caspers during the 2024 Husker Harvest Days, near Grand Island, Nebraska.
