Nebraska Governor ends tax incentives for large-scale data centers
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has signed an executive order to suspend tax incentives for new data center development across the state.
“It’s critical that we protect our consumers and our water,” he says. “We need to make sure that we attract companies that give and don’t take.”
Nebraska Farm Bureau’s first vice president Katie Olson says producers have questions about the impacts on water use and availability in rural communities.
“People are all over the board as to where they sit on the topic,” she says. “Farmers don’t know what they can and can’t believe. People are telling them different versions of what they’re going to require, so there’s just a lot of unknowns that our producers would like to get resolved.”
The governor’s executive order also creates a task force to protect the state’s natural resources from large-scale data center use.
