Nebraska sees soil moisture decrease

Nebraska’s soil moisture levels declined over the past month.

The USDA says around half of the state is short to very short of soil moisture at the end of March following a mostly dry end to winter, which is a concern ahead of planting, but that should see some help from early spring rain and snow and conditions are much better than a year ago.

66% of Nebraska’s winter wheat crop is called good to excellent, up 6% on the month even with that mostly dry March and 39% above this time last year.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume next Monday.
