New Director brings vision to Soil Conservation position

Jerod Chew, the new Director of the Division of Soil Conservationat the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) has been on the job only since Monday, April 6, but already he’s talking about the direction he sees the division taking.

“Our primary focus is going tobe on continuing to highlight the good types of conservation that is happening around the state already, and continuing to support those kinds of efforts,” said Chew. “Specifically in the areas of sediment and nutrient reductions, through practices such as no-till, cover crops and thosetypes of initiatives.”

Chew also tells Brownfield partnerships with federal, state and local agencies will continue to play an important part of the Division of Soil Conservation’s efforts.

“Our partnerships with NRCS and Soil and WaterConservation Districts are absolutely critical for us to efficiently deliver conservation services around the state,” Chew said.
