New Illinois Soybean Association chair prioritizing collaboration

The new chairman of the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) says collaboration is his top priority.

Bryan Severs, who farms in Vermillion County, says agricultural commodity groups need to work together now more than ever.

“We need to make our voices heard because the farmer is being affected by these tariffs more than any other operation in the world.”  He says, “A unified voice sounds better than all individual voices.”

He tells Brownfield he’s also focused on expanding soybean demand, especially through new uses.

“Another thing market development is working on that I am proud of is our Soy Innovation Center.”  He says, “If we can come up with that new little niche thing that we can put soybeans in, and the consumers want it, that’s going to help move the pile.”

Severs says finding new markets for soybean exports and expanding access to soy-based biofuels also remain priorities for the organization.

Severs was elected chairman at ISA’s recent annual meeting.  Other elected executive committee members include Brady Holst of Plymouth, Ill., Vice Chairman; Tim Scates of Carmi, Ill., Treasurer; Scott Gaffner of Greenville, Ill., Secretary; and Jeff O’Connor of Kankakee, Ill., Assistant Treasurer-Secretary.

Three new District Directors were also elected: Weston Olson of Peru, Ill., District 4; Rob Shaffer of El Paso, Ill., District 6; and Tim Clark of Macomb, Ill., District 8. These individuals will serve a three-year term until July 2028.
