New Ohio State, Emergent research program aims to deliver better agronomic insights for farmers

A new partnership between Ohio State University and ag tech company Emergent is using artificial intelligence to help improve crop production practices.
Scott Shearer, professor of agricultural and biological engineering at Ohio State, says RipLINK LoRaWAN will utilize field data to boost agronomic performance.
“These networks are going to help us aggregate data and provide information in real-time in an AI model to inform farmers on the type of things they need to be paying attention to,” he says.
He tells Brownfield researchers will utilize that information to help farmers make better management decisions.
“Soil moisture levels and rainfall events for example,” he says. “With this technology, we will be able to make that information and research readily available to farmers at their fingertips.”
The partnership is part of Emergent’s Ag University Research Farm Program, a national initiative to equip land-grant universities with research infrastructure.
