New soybean traits attracting costumers
The vice president of product management with Benson Hill says end users are seeking more from their soybeans.
Aaron Robinson tells Brownfield…
“Soybean varieties that have either ultra-high protein, low oligosaccharides, anti-nutrients, improved feed quality, improved oils for food applications, as well as products that fit the export market,” he says.
He says quality traits are bringing gains to poultry and swine producers.
“Our ultra-high protein, low oligosaccharides varieties have about a 20% improvement in protein content, which allows these animal producers to optimize the diets for these animals,” he says.
Robinson says dairy producers are also benefitting.
“Whole roasted soybeans for dairy applications that with that high oleic component really drive an increase in butter fat as well as overall body condition for the cows,” he says.
Robinson says utilizing artificial intelligence and other technology allows the company to design soybean varieties for specific markets and uses.
Benson Hill is currently seeking growers in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa for the 2025 growing season.
