New trade deals are important for growing beef markets

A cattle producer from western Nebraska says new trade policy is important to grow demand for U.S. beef.

“There’s no ceiling right now in the beef export market right now.”

Jaclyn Wilson, the chair of the international trade committee at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, says she heard from the chief ag negotiator at Cattle Convention last week about the administration’s plans.

“We do really appreciate Doug McKalip coming and I think there was clarification on some topics, but at the same time we’d like to see increased pressure on other things,” she says. “There are some wins, including ongoing conversations with Australia, but also losses like what’s happening with Paraguay imports.”
