NFarms facility will improve data management for producers, businesses

A New University of Nebraska-Lincoln facility is bringing together precision ag data and technology to help producers improve management decisions

Joe Luck, associate director of the Eastern Nebraska Research Extension and Education Center (ENREEC), says the NFarms building will harness decades of information gathered from the institution’s extension facilities across the state. “I consider this the gold standard. We’re collecting all of the production data. We’re also collecting the other data whether that’s remote sensing data sets, soil ground water and all of these other things. We’re able to have all of those things here.”

He tells Brownfield the facility will centralize data from different systems to create easier access for producers. “What does it look like when you have all of those data sets together if it’s crop production agronomic data from the machinery or the irrigation data from our center pivots and the crop reflectance data from our research data sets. That’s been an innovation that’s not available and we can do that really well here.”

NFarms will also make its 10,000 acres of farmland available to private businesses who are partnering with UNL to test technology before rolling it out to the market.
