A nice week in Wisconsin

It was a very good week for working in the fields in Wisconsin last week.  Temperatures were below normal but the sun was shining with no measurable precipitation reported.  Topsoil moisture is 80 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus as of Sunday.  That will change dramatically next week as that slow-moving system dumped rain on much of the Badger State this week.

The National Ag Statistics Service Wisconsin Field Office reports 67 percent of the corn silage is chopped, a 20-point gain from a week ago.  Although we are still 20 points behind the five-year average.  Reporters say they have good yields and good quality.  66 percent of the state’s corn crop is mature with 7 percent of the corn-for-grain harvested.

90 percent of the soybeans are dropping leaves and 30 percent are harvested, 18 points behind the five-year average.

60 percent of the winter wheat is planted and 95 percent of the potatoes are harvested.
