No harvest activity yet for northwest Iowa farmer
A northwest Iowa farmer says he’s still waiting to get started on this year’s harvest.
Kelly Nieuwenhuis raises corn and soybeans on 2700 acres in O’Brien County.
“We’ve got all the equipment ready, but the crops aren’t quite there yet,” he said Friday. “We’re patiently waiting. Hopefully we’ll be able to roll early next week in the beans.”
He tells Brownfield some harvest activity has been taking place in his area. “It’s really variable. There’s some beans that have been taken out. The silage is pretty well done being chopped. We had planting dates in our area from April 13th to June 13th. It all depended on when you got the crops in the ground.”
Nieuwenhuis says he’s optimistic his corn and soybean crops will be above average.
