North: 2021 is much different for farmers than last year
A broker and risk management expert says March of 2021 looks much different than last March, and he is advising farmers to do things differently than a year ago. Mike North with ever.ag says, “When you sell, how you sell, in what proportion you sell, all of these decisions will look different this year than they did last year.”
North says 2021 has sweepingly different dynamics across the board when it comes to marketing and risk management. “Very much so, and as you came through the averaging periods for corn and soybeans in the month of February, in both cases now we have the capacity to lock in a profit for this year.”
North says farmers have multiple tools that can help them, both now and later in the year. “Whether by contract and/or options, there are lots of ways to come at this market and do so profitably.”
Knowing ARC and PLC would likely not pay this year, North says he told his clients not to let the crop insurance decisions affect their planting decisions and do what’s right for the farm and the farmer.
