North central Iowa harvest results vary

An agronomist with LG Seeds says late season dryness is impacting some corn and soybean yields.

Jed Norman, who’s based in north central Iowa, tells Brownfield…

“You could definitely tell where a lot of plant health faltered a little bit.”  He says, “You know, nitrogen was there but just didn’t have the moisture to bring it into the plant. So, it’s variable. We got some guys that have really, really good yields and then some reports where some yields are maybe underperforming a little bit.”

He says crop performance this year can be tied to a well-timed rain and planting dates.

“A lot of that later planted stuff would probably be in a little bit of the crosshairs as far as we may have taken a little bit off that top end just due to the stress we put it under,” he says.

Norman says soybean harvest is nearing completion in his area, and corn harvest is about halfway complete.
