Northeast Nebraska farmer says crop conditions are excellent
Northeast Nebraska farmer Greg Anderson says crop conditions have significantly improved over the last month. “I picked up a little more than 6 inches of rain since May 18. It went from an extremely dry, dry situation after planting to now having enough topsoil moisture to serve the crops right where they’re at.”
The USDA says corn is rated 74 percent good-to-excellent and soybeans are rated 67 percent good-to-excellent.
He tells Brownfield and warmer temperatures have helped, too. “After a cool last half of May and early part of June, we needed those heat units to do its thing. The corn is making up for it and the soybeans are getting post sprayed and getting everything wrapped up there.”
Pasture and range conditions are rated 75 percent poor-to-fair.
