Northern Iowa farmer feels good about his 2024 crop

A north-central Iowa farmer says conditions have been variable during the growing season.

Brent Renner tells Brownfield a need for rain hasn’t been an issue compared to recent years. “A lot of moisture. More moisture than my particular area tends to wish for, to be quite honest. But if you are well drained, the crops look really good.”

He says his farm has avoided some inclement weather events this summer. “We are in an immediate area here that avoided some of the massive flooding. I’m not saying I don’t have some drowned out spots, but they are relatively small.”

Renner says he’s cautiously optimistic about this year’s crop. He raises corn, soybeans, and alfalfa near Klemme.
