Not much change year-over-year for input costs, Iowa farmer says

A southwest Iowa farmer says input costs are one of his biggest concerns heading into the growing season.

“To me, unfortunately it’s about the same as what we were last year and it’s a lot lower (grain) price than what we were looking at,” Jeff Jorgenson said.

Jorgenson tells Brownfield precision agriculture will be a focus this year. “We’re going with less fertilizer than we have in the past,” he said. “We’re trying to be more efficient and more timely.”

He says he has some hesitations. “We have good ideas of what’s going to work and how it’s going to work, but boy there’s more nervousness for me on if it’s less than what we’re used to, I hope we come out with the same end (result).”

Jorgenson raises corn, soybeans, and livestock near Sidney in Fremont County.
