NPB highlights sustainability commitments during Earth Month

The National Pork Board says it’s working with supply chain partners to help them achieve their sustainability commitments.

Jamie Burr, NPB’s chief sustainability officer, says their We Care Ethical Principles give partners real on-farm data to build public trust.

“We’re collecting data at the farm level. It’s very private. It’s producers’ data. We’re able to collaborate with those farmers through Eocene to where they are collecting that data and helping us with that formula of principles times practices times proof.”

He tells Brownfield a farm impact report through Eocene can help farmers formulate action plans to lower emissions and reduce soil erosion.

“Once Eocene works with a producer to develop that baseline report, then the producer gets a report that shows them their opportunities for reducing their environmental footprint.”

Burr says it’s important to highlight these efforts during Earth Month.

“What we really need to do, as producers have said, is we need to tell our story. But you know what, we have to tell our story with data.”

Through the first two months of 2025, Burr says there were 248 pork producers completing these on-farm sustainability reports.
