NPPC applauds dietary guidelines, pushes for farm bill progress

The National Pork Producers Council is focused on several issues early in 2026.

NPPC CEO Bryan Humphreys says the health status of pigs and trade are top of mind.

“To the new dietary guidelines, potential farm bill and Prop 12 fixes. And about everything in between.”

He tells Brownfield the value of red meat is recognized in the new dietary guidelines.

“And we are just so proud of an administration that recognizes the value of protein, or nutrient-dense protein, as part of a healthy diet.”

Humphreys says NPPC is monitoring the review of the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

“We look forward to this administration doing a quick review and recognizing the value of that agreement to not just the U.S. pork industry, but all of agriculture. And just moving through it.”

And NPPC is hopeful a markup of the farm bill in the U.S. House happens soon.

“There are still some things that need to be taken care of. For our industry, obviously Prop 12 is one that still needs to be addressed, and very proud to have a champion in Chairman GT Thompson.”

Humphreys, who spoke to Brownfield at Minnesota Pork Congress in Mankato Tuesday, says pork producers seem “cautiously optimistic” about the year ahead.
