NPPC looking for more farm bill progress

The president of the National Pork Producers Council is looking for more signs of progress on the farm bill.

Lori Stevermer says Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member John Boozman plans to release his farm bill framework soon.

“I do think that Congress wants to come away with something that they can say they’ve done, I think it will be challenging for them to go back to their home districts over the recess and hear from their constituents (who might say) ‘you really didn’t do anything.’ So hope that puts some pressure on them to move ahead.”

Speaking to Brownfield during the World Pork Expo in Des Moines Wednesday, she said a solution for Proposition 12 is a farm bill priority and NPPC is pleased with the House proposal.

“And we really need something in the Senate. It’s easier if there’s language in both the House and Senate because when they go to conference committee, then they can work it out through conference.”
