NPPC pushes for swift USMCA renewal ahead of July review
The National Pork Producers Council is calling for a quick renewal of the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.
NPPC vice president of government affairs Maria Zieba says U.S. pork exports to Mexico are valued at $2.8 billion.
“And over $750 million to Canada. It’s a very important agreement for our industry.”
She says NPPC would like to see few if any changes to the current agreement and a quick review.
“There’s a lot of uncertainty in the marketplace, and when you have something that you’re reviewing and you’re still seeing how the changes will impact (pork producers), that does create a bit of market uncertainty.”
Zieba made her comments during an NPPC policy panel Wednesday at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines.
The USMCA review is scheduled to begin July 1st.
