NPPC urges delay of Prop 12 in official comments

The National Pork Producers Council has urged, in official comments to the California Ag Department, a delay in the implementation of Proposition 12.

The department’s proposed rules for the so-called Prevention of Cruelty to Farm Animals Act would ban the sale in California of “whole pork meat” products derived from animals not raised under its new space requirements that NPPC calls “arbitrary.”

NPPC says the regulations would create a huge burden and economic harm for all hog farms and the entire pork chain across the country.

An NPPC lawsuit is pending before the ninth circuit court of appeals.
