October poultry production up 1% on year, 2025 pace stays 1% ahead of 2024

4.966 billion pounds of poultry were produced in the U.S. during October.

The USDA says that was up 1% on the year, as increases in chicken processing and weights just canceled out decreases in turkey processing and weights.

Chicken totaled 4.473 billion pounds, with a slaughter of 879.572 million head, both 1% above last year, and an average live weight of 6.72 pounds, a gain of 0.2. Turkey totaled 480.907 million pounds, a decline of 3%, with a slaughter of 19.458 million head, 1% lower, and an average live weight of 30.96 pounds, a loss of 0.72.

For the year to date, U.S. poultry production is 44.933 billion pounds, 1% faster than last year, with chicken 2% ahead of 2024 at 40.742 billion pounds and turkey 6% behind at 4.083 billion pounds.

The USDA’s updated annual poultry production projection is out Tuesday, December 9th at Noon Eastern/11 Central.
