Ohio Corn and Wheat sets focus on sustainable aviation fuel

An Ohio farmer is excited about the opportunities the sustainable aviation fuels market provides for U.S. corn farmers.

Liz Funderburg is a board member on the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association.

“There’s so much more that goes into sustainable aviation fuel than just producing the corn that goes there,” she says. “So really on the farmers side, the farmers just need to keep producing corn. And so when there’s a market, the farmers will find a way to fill that.”

She tells Brownfield the organization recently met with lobbyists in Washington D.C.

“Biofuels companies, we talked to ethanol plants,” she says. “We talked to geologists and lawyers about the legality of what SAF at the ethanol plant and at the farmer level could look like.”

Funderburg says there are large market opportunities for farmers because of the number of facilities interested in producing sustainable aviation fuel.
