Ohio Corn and Wheat talks about the importance of trade relationships
The Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association is focused on expanding export markets for Ohio farmers.
Director of market development Wendy Osborn says now is the time to increase corn exports.
“We have a huge supply of corn this year and so we need to focus on exports, whether that’s through ethanol, dried distillers, grain or corn, corn on all forms,” she says.
She tells Brownfield…
“95% of the world’s population lives outside of the United States. In the U.S. we have such a surplus of corn and wheat,” she says. “We produce more than we consume here in the US, and so we put the emphasis on trade and exports.”
Osborn says while this year’s corn crop is smaller because of the drought, she says there’s still a lot of old crop corn to be sold.
